I’ve been watching some shows on Netflix lately and thought I’d shake it up with a movie. Browsing through the titles, I came upon The Fundamentals of Caring.

By the looks of it, I was sure this was going to be a heartfelt, coming of age, depressing little film, but it actually cracked me up from the beginning to the end. Yeah, there’s plenty of big picture moments and carpe diem ideas floating around, but none of the mushy stuff lasts long enough for you to get a bad taste in your mouth.

I will say, this movie hit me in a corner of my heart that I wasn’t aware I even had. This movie has a bit to do about being a parent, but a lot to do about just caring for and about someone. It’s sort of weird the types of feelings this story brings up. Thought the characters are harsh to each other pretty often, it’s obvious the kind of bond they’ve made is out of genuine care for one another.

I encourage you to check it out, even if you’re more into action than cute little comedies. I can tell you I was genuinely scared more than once during this movie. Also, if you don’t connect to the characters immediately, you probably won’t at all. The more comfortable they get with each other through the story, the more quirks come out.

Oh, I didn’t say this, but as you see, we’ve got some pretty great acting lined up in this film. Watch it on Netflix tonight!
