I’ve been reading this book called Steal Like An Artist by Austin Kleon, and I’m impressed.

This book is a sort of checklist guide for those struggling to come up with their own “original” ideas or creatives trying to figure out how to “find themselves.” Here is the concept:
Nothing is original, so embrace influence, school yourself through the work of others, remix and reimagine to discover your own path.

Kleon has a few things to say about stealing other people’s ideas and following your obsessions to make your own stuff. What I love the most about this book is how closely these concepts tie in with my blog. I focus on what I consume and obsess over and how this mix of influences helps me to be creative. It come full circle.

I definitely recommend this book if you’re struggling to focus, come up with good ideas, or just start making things, whether you consider yourself creative or not. It’s important to understand what makes you who you are and how the work you love influences the work you make. This book helps you do just that.
